Hi! I'm Abby and I'm the founder of Wrapped in Ribbon Weddings and Events. Beside me in the photo is my husband, Nik. In this photo, we are on our honeymoon at Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach, Oregon. This might have been my favorite getaway yet!
My passion for event planning was ignited by my current, full-time role as an administrative assistant and conference planner. Aside from the other responsibilities in my role, nearly half of my job encompasses my logistical planning of two staff conferences per year, and four staff trainings. I have always greatly enjoyed this aspect of my work: planning events and helping create memorable experiences for people. It wasn't until my own wedding in April 2024 that I unlocked my passion for wedding management. Thankfully, my event planning experience transferred seamlessly to wedding coordination. There were so many moments in my wedding planning journey that I had wished I could "clone" myself and be my own wedding coordinator on the big day. Not because I didn't trust anyone else, but because I knew what I wanted and that I could make it happen. I wished one half of me could be present and enjoy my long-awaited day and the other half could be the captain of the ship controlling everything in the background. Little did I know, you can't have both. You can't have a beautiful, flawless wedding day where you are fully hands-off and present, while also captaining the ship, answering a million questions, and running your own timeline. It just isn't possible, unless you like driving yourself crazy. :-) I began my journey thinking that my then-fiancé and I didn't need a wedding coordinator, because I could just do it all myself. Or, better yet, ask my friends and family to help out. As the date approached, I realized there were many more things that needed to be handled; many of which neither myself nor my family should be tasked with doing. Not only had I been patiently waiting for my wedding day, but so had my friends, family, and mother-in-law. I knew every single one of them were graciously ready to accept any responsibility handed to them, but deep down, probably desired to be present and enjoy the day too. It was this moment that I realized... We need to hire someone.
I wanted to be hands-off for my day. This was going to be the biggest celebration of our relationship; We deserved a day just for us. A coworker referred me to her coordinator, who I ended up hiring as our coordinator. I can't even explain to you the sigh of relief that I had when she took over all the details! Enjoying your engagement and mentally preparing for marriage is the priority and takes enough time as it is. Adding a million details on top of it can take the joy away from preparing for your big day. My wedding day ended up being perfect, and we owe it all to our amazing wedding coordinator! We trusted her to take care of all of the details, and she followed through flawlessly. I had the luxury of waking up that morning knowing that I wouldn't have to be the point of contact for anyone or anything. I was ecstatic that I could just experience my day and leave the rest to my coordinator. Now, I want to give other brides the same experience.
So...Why Wrapped in Ribbon? The name came to me one evening as I was imagining the elements of my fictitious business. I needed a name that would be flexible, versatile, and expandable as the business grew. I needed a name that would reflect my services and stimulate trust. It needed to feel like a couple walking into their dream wedding knowing they happily and willingly handed the details off to me. The name also serves as a double entendre, eluding to the significance of ribbon in traditional wedding ceremonies. Ribbons have been a traditional aspect of weddings for hundreds of years and have been used for a variety of purposes, including decoration, ceremony, and symbolism. Ribbons can symbolize many things, but most importantly, a couple's love, their unity and connection. From a ceremony standpoint, ribbons are used in many different cultural traditions. In Celtic tradition, a couple's hands are bound together with ribbons to represent their commitment to one another. In a New Orleans tradition, the bride inserts charms with ribbon tails into the cake, while friends and family surround her and watch. In other traditions, guests participate in the ceremony by wrapping colored ribbons around the couple's wrists and sharing their best wishes to the couple. In Medieval Europe, ribbons were often attached to the bride's dress as a symbol of her purity and innocence. All in all, ribbons have been a noteworthy aspect of wedding traditions for centuries. There doesn't seem to be a sign those traditions are dying any time soon! Ribbons also make for beautiful additions to boutonnieres, table settings, and other floral arrangements. Therefore, Wrapped in Ribbon came to life.
I could not be more excited to be on this new venture. My husband, Nik, and I live in St. Louis with our two dogs: a golden retriever mix named Boone and Border Collie Mix named Lola. We are a proud auntie and uncle to our adorable niece named Mia. We love traveling and hope to do much more of it in the near future. We have taken a number of trips together including Disney World, Chicago, Phoenix, Washington DC, New York, and many drivable places in between. We have many more places on our list that we'd love to visit someday, a number of them being a city with a sports team. We are fans of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the LA Lakers. We like to hit the road a few weekends a year to watch the Bengals play another Midwestern team. When I am not at my full-time job or wedding planning, I spend my free time baking sourdough bread, writing, hanging out with my dogs, watching movies with the husband, and thrifting in person or through online estate sales.
I can't wait to make your day as magical and special as the couple that you are. Let's plan a day you'll remember forever.
XOXO - Your hype girl, Abby
